ExerciseBuddy, a visual exercise system using an iPad, solves the difficult problem of introducing exercise to individuals with autism. Using established teaching strategies, visual supports and video-modeling, ExerciseBuddy inspires students without challenging the teachers. David Geslak, a former Fitness Coordinator at a school for individuals with autism and Ashley Palomino, a former Special Education Teacher at the Chicago Public Schools developed ExerciseBuddy. Using their expertise and experience as paraprofessionals, they will interactively teach educators how ExerciseBuddy can be easily implemented in their classroom and throughout a students daily schedule. They will not only focus on the impact ExerciseBuddy has for students with autism but also how it can better engage their support staff and typical developing students to make a difference.
